A Rich History of Family Ownership

Schroeder’s Automotive Specialists opened its doors in 1927, founded by D.H. Schroeder. Since then, it has remained a family-owned and operated business, with a history of strong values and deep community ties. Initially, the shop began as a gas station and fuel delivery service, offering oil changes and other minor services using a single outdoor service pit. Over the years, the shop expanded its offerings and evolved with the times, but the core values of honesty, quality work, and friendly customer service have remained unchanged.

A Family Tradition Continues

The shop has seen several generations take the reins of ownership. After D.H. Schroeder’s passing, his son, Paul Schroeder, took over operations with his wife, Aletha. They expanded the business to include a small short-order restaurant and a decorative concrete lawn ornament side business. Following Paul’s death in 1955, Aletha continued the business with their eldest son, Bob, who further expanded the repair services to include all aspects of automotive and truck repairs. Bob and his wife, Janice, purchased the shop in 1973, eventually closing the restaurant and focusing solely on automotive and truck repair.

In 2005, after Bob’s passing, Bob’s son Dave took over the business and continued to grow the shop with his sons, Josh and Chris. Today, Dave and Josh continue the family tradition of excellent service, with Josh running day-to-day operations. The sixth generation of the family, Josh’s children, Samantha and Jackson, now work part-time in the summer, keeping the family legacy alive.

The Journey into Auto Repair

Nearly every owner, except for D.H. and Paul, grew up working in the shop, gradually transitioning from employee to owner. This hands-on experience in all aspects of the business has helped shape the commitment to quality and personal care that continues today.

Meet Our Dedicated Team

At Schroeder’s Automotive Specialists, we’re proud of our talented team. We have four highly skilled technicians, two service advisors, and a parts manager, many of whom have been with us for over seven years. Our lead service advisor, Kyle, has been with us for nearly 10 years and is a favorite among our customers. We also have a couple of younger technicians who have become an integral part of the team, and we look forward to seeing them grow in their careers.

Owner’s Passion for Community and Family

In his free time, Dave enjoys spending time with his five grandchildren, ranging from 3 to 19 years old, and stays busy attending various activities. He is deeply involved in his church and continues his long-standing connection to Huntington University as an assistant coach for the Women’s Volleyball team. Josh, on the other hand, enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarina, traveling to their children’s show choir competitions and lacrosse tournaments. An avid hunter, Josh also enjoys time outdoors, whether in the woods or in the duck blind with his son, Jackson.

A Family-Oriented Legacy

Dave and his wife, Jody, have three children: Josh, Chris, and Alyssa. All of their children are married and have children of their own. Josh and Sarina have two kids, Samantha and Jackson. Chris and his wife, Cassie, have one daughter, Zoe, while Alyssa and her husband, Kam, have two children, Cooper and Addison. This close-knit family dynamic has been the cornerstone of Schroeder’s Automotive Specialists for generations, ensuring that the shop remains rooted in tradition and family values.
